Private William McGregor

William McGregor was born on 28 April 1895 at Cushendall, Ballycastle, County Antrim, the second of four children of miller John McGregor and his wife Sarah (née McMeekin). His father died of tuberculosis when he was just five years old. At the time of the 1911 Census he was living in Wellington Street, Ballymena, where he worked as a grocer's assistant.

McGregor enlisted in the North Irish Horse in November or December 1917 (regimental number unknown at present). He trained at the regimental reserve camp at Antrim until discharged in 1919, not having seen overseas service.
